Steps for an Insurance Inventory in Your Home
1/14/2021 (Permalink)
Inventory your home now to make life easier later!
Here at SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin and Warren County, we work to make water, fire, and mold damage “Like it never even happened.” Restoring your home after damages of these kinds occur often means replacing items that were affected, so an up-to-date home inventory can be a big help for both restoration professionals and insurance adjusters working on your claim. Also, home inventories aren’t just for home owners or for people who already have insurance; they can be a great first step in determining what level of coverage you might need, and are also valuable in seeking renter’s insurance or filing a claim as a renter.
While perhaps time-consuming at first, building a home inventory is a simple process. To get started on yours, just follow these steps:
- Go through your home room by room and take pictures of the entire room, as well as close-up pictures of individual items you would want replaced in the event of a loss
- For each item, record a description of the item, the serial number if applicable, when and where the item was purchased, and the cost at time of purchase (or appraisal of cost if actual cost is unknown)
- Add new items to your inventory as they’re added to your home, and keep copies or pictures of receipts whenever possible
- For antique items or collections, check with your insurance agent to determine if special coverage is needed
In our increasingly digital world, home inventories are easier than ever to create. You can organize one in an online spreadsheet, or check out several free app options to use directly on your phone or a tablet. In the event of an emergency at your home, your inventory can then be accessed off-site. Finally, as an extra preparedness step you can add important contact information to the bottom of your document, like the numbers for your insurance agent and for SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, and Warren County!

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) creates the standards for the restoration industry and provides training and certification to restoration companies. IICRC Certified Firms have the right to display the IICRC Certified Logo.
IICRC Certified Firms must
• Present accurate information to consumers and conduct business with honesty and integrity.
• Require a technician on all jobs who has been formally trained and passed all required tests.
• Require a continuing education program to keep technicians up-to-date on the latest changes in the industry.
• Maintain liability insurance to protect all parties in the event of an accident.

The IICRC Develops The Standards For The Restoration Industry
The IICRC has been the driving force in establishing the main industry standards and reference guides for professional carpet cleaning, water damage restoration and mold remediation. These IICRC standards take years to develop and require the coordination of experts in the field: manufacturers, industry organizations, insurance professionals, training schools, contractors, and public health professionals.
Every five years, the standards are reviewed and updated. The water damage restoration field changes rapidly with advancements in technology and science, and therefore the standards must evolve to keep pace.

A Day in the Life.....

SERVPRO of CFW
What is it like to work for a mitigation company? Most people go to a job, where if they are lucky will be a Monday through Friday, 9 to 5 and then they get to go home. But what happens when a emergency happens? There needs to be someone that will be available to call! At SERVPRO of CFW we have trained men and women who drop everything day or night to make sure if someone needs them, they are right there to help!
Now, this is not to say we don't enjoy a little Monday through Friday. We have regular business hours just like everyone else, and have an on call team in place 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! So don't hesitate to call if Grandma burns up the house when she was trying to make that special stuffing.
So here is a little glimpse into what the day would look like for one of our Crew Chiefs:
They would come in at 7:30, they get their work orders for the day. Then they give instructions to their team to gather supplies, check their trucks over and fuel up. Then its off to the races!
However, like today a call can come in and those Crew Chief's will have to re-route what they are doing so we can help everyone who needs us!
At the end of the day, we want everyone to feel safe in their home, and to feel like we are taking the best care of them!

SERVPRO is proud to participate on Halloween on the square. This is where the whole community comes together to create a safe environment for the kids to come trick or treating. This year SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin and Warren Counties handed out candy and crayons. With the new Emoji movie coming out the marketing department here decided it would be fun to make poop emoji crayons to hand out to the kids. They were a hit!! We gave out over 2000 emoji crayons. All the kids were dressed up, and the business owners joined in the fun. There were all different themes at the various tables. We decided to "bleed green" and turn into SERVPRO Zombies! If you need anything please do not hesitate to call us! 931-723-8088

David Wiggins teaching water drying and restoration.
On April 21st SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren sponsored a continuing education class for the agents in our area. We had special guest speaker David Wiggins come in from SERVPRO Corporate to educate of the importance on properly drying a water loss. The attendees were able to receive 4 free credits for their license!
We at SERVPRO really value the importance of education and want to be supporters of that! As always remember we are not only here to serve the needs of disaster and cleanings, but we also want to serve our community anyway we can!
Proverbs 9:9 says, "Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning".

Attending Servpro training in Gallatin on November 21. Pictured here are Tom Walker and Sherry Stevens of Servpro Corporate. We learned how to better
On a regular basis, owners & staff attend training meetings and seminars intended to help us better serve the clients in our market. SERVPRO is continually setting the standard in the cleaning and restoration industry. We recognize the need to learn better and more efficient ways to reach out to our markets in person AND online through social media and websites. What better way to make sure our efforts are effective than to have corporate staff give us some hands on training.
