Using Alternative Candles vs Real Candles to prevent Fire Damage

11/23/2021 (Permalink)

Candles set the mood for romance and give off the feeling of calm and comfort. The scents bring back memories of good times, whether it’s grandma baking cookies or your childhood home surrounded by flowers. The use of candles comes down to two things: ambiance and scent, but the reality is that candles are dangerous. The romantic memories you’re trying to create could turn into images you don’t want to remember.
The National Fire Protection Association states that between 2015 and 2019, U.S. Fire Departments responded to an estimated 7,400 home structure fires that were created by candle fire each year. Alternatives for candles are the best bet and will continue to keep the mood, the scent and your home safe.

Here Are 4 Candle Alternatives For You

Ambiance

Flameless or battery-operated candles are more than likely the best way to create the mood you’re wanting. This alternative to real candles comes in different shapes, sizes and colors, and you can choose the option of flicker or no flicker.

Table lamps may not be an idea that comes to mind. However, changing out a lampshade can make the difference between brightening up a room or darkening the area enough to set off a feeling of serenity.

Scented

Reed or stick infusers are glass bottle containers with sticks that are used to distribute the smell. The oil soaks the sticks and the fragrance permeates the air.

Flowers are a natural alternative to candles. Bouquets of your favorite blossoms not only brighten a room but also engulf the area with a fresh, clean scent.

The certainty is that candle alternatives are the best way to prevent a devastating fire from occurring. Form memories to last a lifetime and keep your family and home safe by using candle alternatives. Clean Those Gutters Now to Prevent Future Winter Storm Damage

11/23/2021 (Permalink)

As winter and winter storms begin to approach, leaves begin to pile into gutters. It is important to keep your gutters free of debris so water can run into them without resistance. Some steps to prevent clogged gutters include: Trimming trees near the home, installing gutter guards, and removing materials that have fallen into the gutters with a scoop or by hand.

Clogged gutters can result in degraded foundations, cracked roofs, flooding in many areas of the home causing water storm damage, and broken gutters. The results of a clogged gutter will require much more effort to repair then simply fixing it before it occurs. Get prepared this winter season! If you have questions about any water damage or tips on how to prevent water damage call SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren Counties.

Fireplace Safety Tips

A Picture of a lit fireplace with open flames in a living room with a person sitting and their feet propped up to warm them Is your fireplace safe and ready for this winter season?

Everyone enjoys a good fire around the fireplace when temperatures have fallen.  What’s not to enjoy feeling cozy and warm during the winter months? Fireplaces may be used to provide warmth during this time of year.  But have you considered that this could be a potential fire hazard?   Listed below are some tips about fireplace safety to use to keep you and your family safe.

  • Crack open a window while the fire is burning.
  • Be sure the damper or flue is open before lighting or starting a fire, and until embers have completely stopped burning, to draw smoke out of the house.
  • Check the damper by looking up into the chimney with a flashlight or mirror.
  • Use smaller pieces of dry and well-aged wood for home fire safety, avoiding wet or green wood, which causes more smoke and soot buildup in the chimney.
  • Have a professional check the chimney annually.
  • When cleaning a fireplace, remove ashes from previous fires, keeping levels of the to 1 inch or less for less smoke
  • Check for animal nests or other blockages that could prevent smoke from escaping.
  • Make sure the area around the fireplace is clear of anything that is potentially flammable.
  • Never leave a fire in the fireplace unattended and be sure it’s completely out before going to bed or leaving the house.
  • Home fireplace safety should include keeping a fire extinguisher on hand.

Fire damage can be devastating and SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County understands the stress that comes with it.  Our team of professionals are dedicated to helping you.  If you face any winter storm damages, give our team a call 931-723-8088 and we’ll be there to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Dealing with Smoke Damage After a Fire

9/1/2021 (Permalink)

How To Deal With Fire Damage?

Smoke is one of the worst things about fire damage to your home. Smoke can quickly ruin the walls and ceilings of your property, and it is not easy to clean the damage due to smoke. The particles in smoke are small, unburnt material that is dark in color and can deposit on almost any surface. These particles can not only cause cosmetic damage but also can cause structural damage.

Cleaning smoke after fire damage to your property is a job for the professionals here at SERVPRO. Particles in smoke that are less than 10 micrometers in diameter can get lodged in porous surfaces. If these particles are not cleaned correctly, they can cause an irreversible damage to your property.

Call In The Professionals:
Smoke residue can be very difficult to clean. If you try to clean them on your own, chances are, you will worsen the situation. Trying to clean smoke covered ceiling or walls can drive the particles deeper into the pores making the damage permanent. Professionals at SERVPRO are trained and have years of experience to do this job. Make sure that you call in the experts rather than trying to clean the smoke damage by yourself. We use various extraction methods to drive these particles out and minimize the damage. Paint on the walls and ceiling can also blister bubble during the fire.

The odor is yet another huge problem that accompanies smoke damage. Here at SERVPRO, we use some of the best equipment to combat even the most terrible smoke odors.  Our technicians use air scrubbers to eradicate any lingering smoke particles and get your home smelling like home again.

Limiting the damage and a successful restoration depends on how quickly we can start working. Call SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County at (931) 723-8088 to schedule an appointment with one of our experts today.

Here's an Easy Way to Prevent Water Damage

9/1/2021 (Permalink)

In serving people of our community, we are often directly involved in some of the most stressful times of our customers' lives.  Our job is to make it "Like it never even happened," and to walk with you through each step of the restoration process.

Unfortunately, we sometimes find that water damage could have been easily prevented.  One great way to prevent water damage is to make simple upgrades to the plumbing supply lines to your sinks, toilets, washing machines and ice makers.

Over time, plastic and rubber materials can dry-rot and lose their structural strength that is needed to withstand the water pressure being exerted on them around the clock.

ACTION:  Invest in "braided" supply lines at your local do-it-yourself retailer.  The cost is just a few dollars per line, and you can outfit your entire home for far less than the cost of your insurance deductible, should an old line decide to break.  Furthermore, you will have the peace of mind that you've put your best foot forward in preventing a water damage loss that might otherwise create a very stressful time in your life!

For help with your water disaster, call us, SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County at (931) 723-8088. We are Here to Help!

Why you Should Make Carpet Cleaning a Priority!

9/1/2021 (Permalink)

Young Child Playing with a Toy Car on the Floor of the Family Room with Carpet Get your carpets professionally cleaned regularly to help protect your family and your home.

For most homeowners, carpet cleaning is rarely considered a routine chore. While most assume that vacuuming is sufficient, it often isn’t enough for the heavier debris.

Carpet companies often require regular cleaning to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty, but there are several other reasons why carpet cleaning is a wise choice. By allowing for easier floor maintenance, extending the life of your carpet and banishing bugs and mites, carpet cleaning is a smart choice for any homeowners looking to have clean and well-maintained floors.

Still not convinced? Here are some ways that carpet cleaning can benefit your home:

Have simpler floor maintenance. Though vacuuming handles only the surface, it can happily coexist with regular carpet cleaning to make your life much easier! Regularly cleaned carpets are simpler to vacuum because the heavy-duty dirt and debris have already been removed.

Extend your carpet’s life. In remodels, carpet is often replaced for looking “tired”—often simply a result of being too dirty for too long. Every time dirty carpet is walked on, the debris becomes more embedded, working like sandpaper against the fibers and shortening the lifespan tremendously.

Remove mites and bugs. As with any other soft surface, mites and bugs are more than happy to take residence within plush carpet fibers. Thankfully, professional cleaning creates an inhospitable living environment for the critters, and staying on a regular schedule will discourage them from coming back.

Improve indoor air. Not only do carpets contain dirt, but there are also more dangerous pollutants and bacteria that might be lurking within the fibers. When doors and windows are opened, contaminants from the outside air are also brought into the home. Because vacuuming only handles surface-level debris, the other pollutants are free to degrade indoor air quality until they’re professionally removed.

Call us, SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County at (931) 723-8088 today to set up your next professional carpet cleaning!

Space Heater Safety in Your Home

Anyone who has paid the bill to heat their home in the winter knows how expensive it can be to stay warm.  In return, this is why so many people to turn to their trusty space heater, but is your space heater “trusty”?  Did you know upwards of 25,000 house fires and 300 deaths are attributed to space heaters each year?  Follow these tips to help keep warm and most importantly protect your family and home this winter.

  • NEVER leave a space heater unattended. Turn it off when you are leaving a room or going to sleep
  • Proper placement of your space heater is crucial! Keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything that is flammable or can burn. This includes curtains, bedding, clothes, papers, etc.
  • Select the appropriate space heater for the size of your room. If you are placing the heater in a bedroom or smaller area you only need a heater rated for your space.  On the other hand, if you are heating a large area don’t expect to buy a smaller rated heater to heat the entire space. That leads to overuse and can cause the smaller heater to malfunction.
  • Keep children and pets away from the space heater. This may sound obvious, but many fires are caused by the heater getting covered or tipped into something flammable.
  • Place your heater on a hard and flat surface. Most heaters have an auto-shutoff trigger on the bottom but it’s always best to take the proper precautions.
  • As a rule of thumb plug directly into an outlet. Do not use an extension cord or power strip, which could overheat and result in a fire.
  • Keep space heaters away from water. Refrain from running a space heater in a bathroom or humid room unless you have a bathroom safe model (which will be specified on the box at time of purchase)

These tips are to help you and your loved ones stay safe and warm.  Please be ALERT and careful so you don’t become one of the 25,000 fires a year caused by a space heater.

If you do experience a fire from any source type, please respond quickly and call SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County. As Fire and Water Damage Specialists, we have the experience, the expertise, and the advance training that enables us to get your property restored quickly and thoroughly.

Steps for an Insurance Inventory in Your Home

1/14/2021 (Permalink)

Smartphone taking photo Inventory your home now to make life easier later!

Here at SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin and Warren County, we work to make water, fire, and mold damage “Like it never even happened.” Restoring your home after damages of these kinds occur often means replacing items that were affected, so an up-to-date home inventory can be a big help for both restoration professionals and insurance adjusters working on your claim. Also, home inventories aren’t just for home owners or for people who already have insurance; they can be a great first step in determining what level of coverage you might need, and are also valuable in seeking renter’s insurance or filing a claim as a renter.

While perhaps time-consuming at first, building a home inventory is a simple process. To get started on yours, just follow these steps:

  • Go through your home room by room and take pictures of the entire room, as well as close-up pictures of individual items you would want replaced in the event of a loss
  • For each item, record a description of the item, the serial number if applicable, when and where the item was purchased, and the cost at time of purchase (or appraisal of cost if actual cost is unknown)
  • Add new items to your inventory as they’re added to your home, and keep copies or pictures of receipts whenever possible
  • For antique items or collections, check with your insurance agent to determine if special coverage is needed

In our increasingly digital world, home inventories are easier than ever to create. You can organize one in an online spreadsheet, or check out several free app options to use directly on your phone or a tablet. In the event of an emergency at your home, your inventory can then be accessed off-site. Finally, as an extra preparedness step you can add important contact information to the bottom of your document, like the numbers for your insurance agent and for SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, and Warren County!

Signs of Water Damage

1/14/2021 (Permalink)

Bubbling Paint from Water Damage Be on the lookout for water damage!

More American homeowners file water damage claims than you might expect. Given that about one in 50 American homeowners files water damage claims every year on their homeowner’s insurance, there’s a good chance that someone you know might have filed one last year.

Not only are water damage claims common, but they’re also growing. In fact, the insurance industry statisticians say that water damage claims have been growing annually over the past several years. But at the same time, fewer homeowners have made fire damage claims.

What you need to know about water damage

Many homeowners aren’t sure when leaks can be handled at home and when the water damage they cause need to be repaired and evaluated by professional water restoration technicians. You might notice these signs if you’re dealing with water damage that needs professional help.

You notice signs of mold, especially a musty odor. A distinctive, musty smell is one of the first signs of mold and mildew in a home. That means it’s important for you to take steps to stop the progression of mold and mildew before it grows more prevalent in your home.

Fabrics start to bleed, fade or stain. If you notice these problems with your curtains or the upholstery in your home, that can be a sign of too much moisture in your home. Don’t ignore this sign.

Your floorboards or furniture are damaged. Wet wood will start to warp within just a few days. If that happens in your home, it’s best to start seeking help from professionals who can help you restore your home.

Most of these problems won’t improve over time without professional intervention. So if you notice these issues, it’s important to start the water restoration process as soon as possible.

How Water Removal can Clean Up and Protect a Home

Contacting Certified Technicians After a Water Damage Event in Your Home can Prevent Secondary Damages from Setting in

When an accident occurs inside a home, the confined environment often works against a homeowner. Water spilled on the floor, in any amount, can quickly evaporate, making the saturated area seem drier than it really is while at the same time significantly increasing the humidity in the air.

Homes might require water removal services for several reasons, from the appliance's multiple water lines to tubs and sinks to weather-related issues. While removing as much water as possible before SERVPRO technicians arrive is always recommended, waiting to call for professional assistance only allows damage to worsen.

Prompt attention to the immediate area can curtail the amount of damage sustained, but professional mitigation of the situation also protects your home in other locations. The additional moisture in the air from evaporated water rarely remains suspended permanently, however, and condensation on belongings or absorption of this moisture by porous items within your home can allow other, more costly problems to develop.

Once humidity has penetrated into an area, for example, behind the seams on wallpaper, that moisture becomes increasingly complicated and time intensive to extract. Water removal can prevent damage in the first place, and we use dehumidification and desiccant equipment for this purpose throughout affected homes. Our highly trained and experienced technicians received certificates from the IICRC in Water Damage Restoration (WRT), ensuring that your home receives the quality services it needs and deserves. Our goal is to restore damaged homes thoroughly, so everything is once again “Like it never even happened.”

To quickly dry out your home's saturated floors, our use of water removal equipment might include large pump trucks when standing water is present. Large air blowers and small heated pads increase the rate of evaporation. Handheld suctioning devices are useful for eliminating smaller pockets of water present. Dehumidifiers and air scrubbers remove moisture from the indoor environment before it has a chance to cause further damage.

Whenever walls and vertical structures, such as long drapes or decorative columns, are also saturated with water that has wicked upwards along their lengths, our air blowers can be directed specifically for each one. This process reduces the probability of water stains and color bleeding. When the air outside is less humid than the indoor environment, we allow windows to remain open, speeding up the process even more.

SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County is here to help you accomplish restoring your home to a pre-accident condition using the latest in water removal technology and qualified, skilled professionals. Call us at 931-723-8088.

Let's Keep Each Other Safe: How to Get Professional Cleaning for COVID-19

11/27/2020 (Permalink)

Cleaning Staff Preforming a Professional cleaning Professional Certified Cleaning- Schedule Yours Today!
Whether you're trying to re-open a business or keep your home extremely clean for at-risk residents, professional cleaning can help relieve your COVID worries.

There has never been a better time to re-evaluate your cleaning policies and procedures. Whether it's an office, residential building, or your home, cleanliness is now the highest priority.

If you want true peace of mind about potential exposure to COVID 19, you should find a professional cleaning service.

Here's how to do it!

Find a Trusted Professional Cleaning Service

Professional cleaners are in high demand because of the pandemic. If you are going to trust a professional cleaning service, you need to be sure they are qualified for the job.

Look for a service that has experience cleaning spaces like the one you want to clean. A company specializing in individual homes may not be the right choice for your office building or vice versa.

Read reviews for the cleaning service before hiring them. If other people have had a good experience, chances are you will too.

The professional cleaning service has their procedures with regard to PPE and other precautions. Most services now have clear guidelines on protection for their safety and the sanitation of the space.

A one-time cleaning is not going to be enough. Talk with the cleaning service about setting up a regular cleaning schedule weekly or bi-weekly.

Be Proactive

A professional cleaning service will make a big difference in the safety of your home or workplace. But it doesn't mean that you can be complacent about other sanitation measures.

In between cleanings, you should clean surfaces, including door handles or elevator buttons. Any surface that people could potentially come in contact with should be disinfected.

Promote handwashing in bathrooms and kitchens. You can use sticky notes, posters, or any other signage that might be helpful to remind people to wash their hands.

Facial coverings should be worn in offices and shared spaces of larger residential buildings (apartments, condos, assisted living facilities).

Keep sanitizing agents available in areas where handwashing may not be convenient.

Limit Exposure Opportunities

If you are working in an office building, consider having some or all employees work remotely if possible. Try to host meetings virtually instead of in-person.

If you must hold a meeting in-person, inform every participant of the precautions, and collect contact information in case someone does get sick.

You can limit your exposure at home by reducing the number of people inside and encouraging guests to wear masks. You can also offer to host outdoor gatherings to reduce the likelihood of the virus spreading.

Be Clean, Be Healthy, Be Safe

These are uncertain times we are living in. But if you can promote a clean, safe space, it will ease your anxiety.

Find a professional cleaning service you can trust, and be diligent about cleaning regularly. Take precautions to prevent the spread of the virus by protecting yourself and your community at all times.

If you are looking for a reliable cleaning service, contact us today at 931-723-8088

Thanksgiving Day Tips for Emergency Prevention

Did you know that Thanksgiving is the highest rated day for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas, and Christmas Eve? We want you to enjoy these days with your family and friends, so here are a few safety tips for when you are cooking that delicious meal.

  • Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stovetop so you can keep an eye on the food.
  • Stay in the home when cooking your turkey and check on it frequently.
  • Keep children away from the stove. The stove will be hot and kids should stay 3 feet away.
  • Make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns.
  • Keep the floor clear so you don’t trip over kids or toys.
  • Keep knives out of the reach of children.
  • Be sure electric cords from an electric knife, coffee maker, plate warmer or mixer are not dangling off the counter within easy reach of a child.
  • Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children — up high in a locked cabinet.
  • Never leave children alone in room with a lit candle.
  • Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Test them by pushing the test button.

Be especially aware when Deep Frying a turkey, people tend to put too much oil in which causes overflow and spreads to the open flame causing a mass fireball. Also putting in a frozen or very wet bird can cause major problems which they call B.L.E.V.E. which stands for Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion.

  • Always use fryer outside away from any structure
  • Keep oil under 350 degrees, the hotter the oil the more combustible it is
  • Don’t overfill the pot with oil
  • Thoroughly defrost turkey(24 hours for every 10 pounds the turkey weighs)
  • Turn off flame before putting turkey in
  • Keep grease fire approved extinguisher on hand
  • Lower turkey into pot slowly

COVID Cleaning for Commercial Properties

11/1/2020 (Permalink)

A SERVPRO technician fogging a commercial property with CDC certified product to destroy viral pathogens. SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County technician sanitizing a commercial property.

Many people are hesitant to go into commercial buildings due to being around people who may have been exposed to COVID-19. With this SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County is part of Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned developed by SERVPRO Family Franchise. Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned is a method meant to rid of viral pathogens. This is a 3 C’s step by step program we provide for businesses: Consult, Clean, and Certify. When a commercial business has gone through our program they may receive a decal sticker on their window to show their customers and employees are in a disinfected area.

Consult

The first step of the C’s is to Consult. Consulting will determine the level of disinfecting needed for the building. Other forms of cleaning customization we consider is the size of the building, how many people are actively in the building, and the nature of the business. For example a warehouse cleaning program will look significantly different than that of a restaurant or shopping center.

Clean

The second step is Clean. The cleaning process will take measures such as: People, Process, and Product. Our technicians are prepared and equipped to not breathe the air in your facility along with spreading any pathogens. SERVPRO of Coffee, Franklin, Warren County technicians have been trained to dispose of their PPE appropriately. Based on the level of contamination it may be required to perform various cleanings, this will ensure confirmed COVID-19 pathogens have been exterminated. All SERVPRO franchises are using CDC certified products to ensure elimination of viral pathogens.

Certify

The third and final step is to Certify. In order for your customers and employees to feel safe in your building we can place a sticker decal that shows the cleaning and sanitization process that was taken at your business.

Create a safe environment and give your customers and employees one less thing to think about. Give us a call at (931) 723-8088 to go through our 3 C’s Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned program.

Does Your Coffee/Franklin/Warren County Home Have A Mold Problem?

1/13/2020 (Permalink)

In Coffee/Franklin/Warren County, mold can spread through a home in as little as 48 hours.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties Smoke and Soot Cleanup

1/7/2020 (Permalink)

Smoke and Soot Damage Can Cause a Pervasive Odor in Your Coffee/Franklin/Warren County Home.

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Services

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.

Deadly Tennessee Black Mold

7/8/2019 (Permalink)

On Friday afternoon, 15 minutes before time to go home for the weekend the phone rings.  Thank you for choosing SERVPRO we are always here to help, to my surprise it was a sweet southern granny on the other end.  She began with hi honey this is Mrs. Ida Fay Jones in Normandy Tennessee.  Me and my husband Earl have been coughing up that nasty yellow stuff and he doesn't even smoke any more. But anyway, I was ah mopping the kitchen floor the other day and when I went to put the Pine-Sol back up that's when I seen it!  Honey, I hollered at Earl to come quick, I just couldn't believe we done got that deadly black mold under our sink.  Can you help us or is our house just ruined?  Upon arrival, our crew chief was met at the door by Mr. and Mrs. Jones, their son, daughter-in-law and two next door neighbors.  Mrs. Jones was so afraid that everyone who had come into her house had been exposed, so she gathered them all at her home to ask SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties questions about exposure to deadly black mold.  After 45 minutes of intense questioning, we proceeded to scope the home.  We found 1 square foot of mold under the kitchen sink.  Needless to say the job took a total of 2 hours start to finish and I am happy to report Mr. and Mrs. Jones are in good health and very satisfied with the patience that our crew displayed, as well as the work performed.

SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren to the rescue for the Christmas season

7/5/2019 (Permalink)

The night before Christmas, Santa was delivering the toys to all the children around the world.  His reindeer made a stop to a home, this home had four Christmas trees within the home, while Santa was in the basement putting the toys under that tree, a water heater supply line broke causing extensive amount of water that covered the basement in a very short time, matter of fact there was 2' of water in the basement before Santa could say Ho Ho Ho.  He frantically thought what am I going to do.  He immediately jumped on a chair so he would not fill his boots with water.  Called the homeowner and explained the situation, the homeowner said I am not sure what to do!  Santa said, I have a solution, he reached for his phone and called SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties (as they were on his speed dial.) SERVPRO arrived removed all the water so Santa could be on his way.  Then SERVPRO dried the structure and Santa returned to placed the gifts under the tree.

Dirty Laundry

7/5/2019 (Permalink)

Ok all you homeowners out there, here is one that SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties has never encountered.  We were called to a residence in which the homeowner had noticed standing water outside his home.  When we arrived we proceeded to enter the crawlspace (not so fast!!) the stench of (sewage) with yes the dreaded floaties.  As we were removing the water and things, we were able to get to the cause the dreaded toilet.  What we found was a pair of boxer shorts in the plumbing pipes, now I don't want to know HOW something like that was in there!!  There are no children in the home.  The technician was able to remove them and the pipe was repaired and all is flowing well again!  SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties will tackle any job.

The Strange Entity on the Wall

7/5/2019 (Permalink)

Samantha has always been into strange things and by that we mean the Ouija board, calling upon spirits through her magic ball, and other mystical things.  After one of her sessions, she went down into the basement to do her laundry.  When she turned on the overhead light, she saw this huge black shape on the wall.  There was black ooze dripping from the shape and making a puddle on the floor.  Scared, Samantha ran up stairs and called her mom.  After talking with her, she made the next call to the local priest.  Turns out her mother had advised her to have an exorcism performed on the wall.  When the priest came into the house, Samantha directed him to the basement and stood back as he took out the things to perform the exorcism.  As he was about to start, he slipped and fell on the black puddle.  The priest scrambled back and held out his cross.  When nothing happened, he brought his hand closer to his face and smelled the black goo,  eyebrows raised, he turned back to Samantha and said in a deepened voice, "Child, this is mold!"  I know just the right company (SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties) you can call and have this cleaned up.  Don't be like Samantha and her mother.   SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties is always here to help.

Playing Possum....

3/21/2019 (Permalink)

Of the many services that SERVPRO offers one particular was very memorable. Like any other normal work day, our crews were dispatched to their jobs. However, one technician was dispatched to, no other than, our franchise owners mother's house; but not for water, fire, or mold. Upon arrival the technician approaches mom and asks what she needed assistance with, and he did not expect her answer!! Mom proceeds to inform this technician that there is a dead possum in her yard and would very much appreciate if it could get remediated! After the "are you serious" question and the dumbfounded look on the technician's face, he proceeds to assure her that he will absolutely get this possum out of her yard. Technician puts on the proper PPE of nitrile gloves and grabs a trash bag as well as a stick lying on the ground, to be used as his own personal "is it dead" testing mechanism. After a few firm pokes and prods and no reaction from the possum, technician proceeds to place in the garbage bag. As technician was loading the now partially full garbage bag, mom comes out and realizes the coast is clear and a job well done! At the end of the day, this technician has a new certification to add to his resume: Possum Remediation. Thus "Like it never even happened."

Here we Goat again.....

11/30/2017 (Permalink)

Guard Goat

We recently had a water damage at a home that needed a bathroom demolition. They had an ongoing water leak, and unfortunately it required dry out and mold remediation. In these situations where the homeowners are going through a upheaval of their home, it is always good to find a bright side to what is going on. Meet the resident goat dog. This little girl loved to follow our crew around and make sure they were doing everything they were supposed to be doing for her human parents. Who needs a guard dog, when you have a guard goat? Maybe SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren should offer her a Crew Chief job! In our line of work, we are usually called when something bad happens, so it is wonderful when God blesses us with a little humor, don't you think?

Oh No! SKUNK!

11/20/2017 (Permalink)

Cute, but smelly.

Throughout the years one thing that has become an every year occurrence is the dreaded Pepe Le Pew scenario, yes the SKUNK. This little critter, possibly her little babies will somehow find its way into your home or business and decide to give you a present called skunk smell, which will permeate throughout your home, or your loyal dog will encounter this gal and coming running thru your home for your help. First course of action is to remove the skunk hopefully alive. Once the source has been removed, we here at SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties can help. One of SERVPRO’s Professional Products we use for skunks is Bio Odor Neutralizer, this product contains an exclusive neutralizing agent that forms complexes with sulfur and amine based odors (ie; skunk, seafood, spoiled foods, and dead bodies). We have a protocol to remedy the skunk smell in your home or crawlspace.

Tragedies; No One knows When.

Hugs

Unfortunately our world is a place in which bad things happen like suicide’s, we recently received a call from an adjuster to see if it was possible that we could dispatch a crew immediately for the policy holder, as they had family members coming in and they did not want this scene to be visible. We here at SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties stopped what we were doing and sent a crew there to re-mediate. The family members were grateful for the quick response that was provided. This is one area of the business that is difficult as we are dealing with individuals who have recently lost a loved one, but in the same manner we were there to assist them during this hard time. After we cleaned contents that could be cleaned and removed materials that were contaminated the homeowners were extremely pleased and thanked us again for service.

Man's Best Friend, Water Damage from the Dog's perspective.

11/20/2017 (Permalink)

Faucet Head

Here is a story in which man’s best friend is not a man but a beloved dog (Faucet Head).  This dog got stuck in the bathroom one day while the homeowner was away, and while he played in there jumping on commode and sink and back down again, Faucet Head accidently knocked off the lid to the toilet.  Well guess what Murphy’s law, if it could happen it will.  The lid fell and landed on the supply line causing it to be ripped off the stop.  Faucet Head had no idea what to do, he was unable to call SERVPRO and have it cleaned up before Daddy got home, so he just jumped into the tub and waited.  Daddy arrived home and walked into water running thru the house, he found Faucet Head crouched down in the tub.  Of course who can get mad at your best friend.  Daddy immediately shut off the water to the house and called SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties and they quickly extracted the water and dried the structure. Thank goodness SERVPRO came, because they made it "Like it never even happened."

A Day in the Life.....

11/14/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of CFW

What is it like to work for a mitigation company? Most people go to a job, where if they are lucky will be a Monday through Friday, 9 to 5 and then they get to go home. But what happens when a emergency happens? There needs to be someone that will be available to call! At SERVPRO of CFW we have trained men and women who drop everything day or night to make sure if someone needs them, they are right there to help!

Now, this is not to say we don't enjoy a little Monday through Friday. We have regular business hours just like everyone else, and have an on call team in place 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! So don't hesitate to call if Grandma burns up the house when she was trying to make that special stuffing.

So here is a little glimpse into what the day would look like for one of our Crew Chiefs:

They would come in at 7:30, they get their work orders for the day. Then they give instructions to their team to gather supplies, check their trucks over and fuel up. Then its off to the races!

However, like today a call can come in and those Crew Chief's will have to re-route what they are doing so we can help everyone who needs us!

At the end of the day, we want everyone to feel safe in their home, and to feel like we are taking the best care of them!

"Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others"

Hurricane Harvey

11/13/2017 (Permalink)

Taking out Drywall

Recently SERVPRO of CFW drove over to Texas to be part of the hurricane relief effort. Hurricane Harvey started August 17th, and plagued the gulf and its people until it finally dissipated September 3rd.

We sent out a team of 7 people on September 1st, and ended up helping 10 families over the next two weeks. We cried, laughed and hugged the home owners all around the Houston area that we encountered. Most of the homes had flooded with the water from the storm and their homes were in need of a lot of demolition and sanitation.

At one point one team even rescued a woman whose house was on fire before any rescue squads were called. They were just driving by and saw the flames coming out of the kitchen window.

Between walking for a few miles because roads were in order to get to customers who needed us, dealing with fires and stabilizing flooded homes, the guys and gals from our crew certainly earned their keep!

But we are so blessed that we were able to be part of this, and gratful to God for keeping everyone safe and bringing them home to us!

All the kids were dressed up, and the business owners joined in the fun. There were all different themes at the various tables. We decided to "bleed green" and turn into SERVPRO Zombies! Before and After example of soda blasting

SERVPRO is not afraid to tackle any kind of job! Recently one of our commercial clients asked us to do soda blasting of their attic space after a fire. Soda blasting is a awesome way to clean soot off of wood, and make it look almost untouched from a fire. Take a look at this picture. This is a great example of what soda blasting can achieve! The left side has soot residue on it and the right looks cleaner after this process! If you have a fire, take heart! SERVPRO can help your business become good as new again! 931-723-8088 ~Sue Mihatov

Restaurant Fire

This fire resulted in a fire that actually started in the mulch on the outside of the building and made its way on the inside of the building and up into the attic. Unfortunately, there were customers in the building, but they all got out safely.

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.

Drying your Documents

6/23/2016 (Permalink)

Don't let your papers deteriorate!

What would you do if you have water damage and all of your documents get wet? This can happen either at home or at your business. You call SERVPRO of CFW of course! We now offer Vacuum Freeze Drying! What is this? SERVPRO is only 1 of 3 companies in the United States that has a machine that can handle this. We want to be able to preserve your documents.

Vacuum Freeze drying

- Process in which an item containing moisture is frozen and dried using various vacuums and pressures to achieve sublimation.

- Sublimation

 • The direct conversion of a solid (Ice) into a gas (water vapor), without passage through a liquid stage.

 • Take dry ice for example. Dry ice is made of carbon dioxide, not water. When dry ice is exposed to normal atmospheric conditions it begins to sublimate, it turns directly from its sold stage into its gaseous stage bypassing the liquid stage.

What are the benefits of freeze drying?

Vacuum freeze drying is the most efficient and effective way to salvage water damaged documents.

It is the only method that is approved by NARA (National Archives and Records Administration) and the GSA (General Services Administration).

Other methods such as dehumidification can alter the structure of the paper’s fibers and cause the papers to become more brittle, and is not recommended by any means.

We also offer digitizing of those documents if needed or wanted

So don’t panic and call us! We want to help! 931-723-8088 Sue Mihatov SMR

Major Fire

3/11/2016 (Permalink)

Bathroom of Fire

There was a fire that broke out into home that ended up charring the entire first floor. The second floor of the home was covered in soot. Both floors needed to be completely gone through and throughly cleaned. When a home has soot it is crucial that all the contents are cleaned. Most people do not know but soot can even enter closed books and drawers, so it is important to make sure that every item is addressed. At the end of this job, the homeowners were very happy to see their home was starting to look like the fire never happened and they could start to put the pieces back together.

Hebrews 13:16 "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."

Sprinkler Pipes Burst

2/8/2016 (Permalink)

Cause of water flow was a busted dry pipe sprinkler pipe, that affected about 36 rooms at the hotel.

Fire crews responded to a Fire Alarm activation at a local hotel on January 19, 2016. Upon arrival they saw water flowing out of the third floor. Fire crews did an awesome job of squeeging as much water as the could out of the third floor, shut down the system quickly so as not to cause any more damage. SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren counties came in immediately after the fire crew and began the clean up. We removed all nonsalvagable wet items and began the water removal and drying processes. Our water teams worked tirelessly for days to restore this commercial property as quickly as possible. "Time is Money" and we don't want our clients to miss out on business any longer than absolutely necessary!

Flooding in St. Louis, MO Winter 2016

2/8/2016 (Permalink)

It didn't take long to realize that we didn't need to promise a time to homeowners... a lot of roads were closed and it took several GPS attempts

On December 26 & 27, 2015 the Mississippi River overflowed into most parts of the St. Louis area creating massive flooding in businesses, homes and closing major roads. As part of a large loss/storm team, we deployed 2 water damage teams and a marketer to the affected area. For 12 days, SERVPRO of Coffee/Franklin/Warren Counties cleaned damage done by sump pump and sewage back ups in homeowner basements. One homeowner hugged our marketer when he found out that we'd start cleaning by morning. Most homeowners were surprised that we had come so far to help....

"Water explosion" as described by a local utility company

Here are a few pictures of a "water explosion" due to frozen pipes and thawing from 2 weeks ago. Please take precautions as the temperatures drop this week! Call us at 931-723-8088 if you need our help with mitigation and cleanup!

Marketing/Training

11/26/2013 (Permalink)

Attending Servpro training in Gallatin on November 21. Pictured here are Tom Walker and Sherry Stevens of Servpro Corporate. We learned how to better

On a regular basis, owners & staff attend training meetings and seminars intended to help us better serve the clients in our market. SERVPRO is continually setting the standard in the cleaning and restoration industry. We recognize the need to learn better and more efficient ways to reach out to our markets in person AND online through social media and websites. What better way to make sure our efforts are effective than to have corporate staff give us some hands on training.
